Diablo II
When we decided to create a game clan, it was because we wanted to be able to push our enjoyment of Diablo II to the next level. The year was 2001, and there were several friends living on the west coast of the United States that were into Diablo II, but needed an easier way to keep track of eachother and a way to 'gel' as a group. Hence Knights of the West was born (KWS) A website with forums was created, as well as a chat channel on battle.net maintained by KWS-Bot. Diablo II offered much as an online game, but was not a true MMO. Eventually something new was needed.
Lineage
Before long KWS brached out to Lineage: The Bloodpledge, a popular MMO from Korea (May 2001). This game proved to be much more engulfing than Diablo II; our clan was extremely active for three years on the Ken Rauhel server and still exists there today. Due to character-length limitations, the clan name was changed to Westknights for the Lineage pledge. Lineage is a competive game which lead to our alliance with DeadlySins pledge (2002). Our alliance continued to grow through the rest of 2002 and the beginning of 2003. Tri-Star pledges, Foundation, and Shaolin were all good additions to our alliance. During our stay on Ken Rauhel server, we were able to get a "server first" for ownership of Aden castle, a highly prized pvp objective.
Lineage II
In the beginning of 2004, most of the Westknights members moved to Lineage II Bartz server. After the server wipe and the end of closed beta, Westknights members worked as hard as they could to upgrade the pledge during open beta. We were able to upgrade the pledge to level 3 before the end of open beta, and all our hard work was rewarded when we won the Top Clans of the Land competition sponsored by NCsoft. WK continued to prosper on Bartz after the competition for some time. Eventually the WK clan was absorbed by our old allies DeadlySins, and a few WK members remain a part of DeadlySins to this day.
Lineage 1 private server
During spring 2009 the Westknights Lineage 1 private server was launched, and it has been online and consistently populated ever since! This is where many old WK members still play occasionally. We have deployed many customizations to the server and tweaked rates and drops to better suit the community. We have also added two java developers to the Westknights.com staff to support the Lineage 1 server!
Ragnarok Online private server
During September 2010 the Westknights Ragnarok Online private server was launched in beta status. Although there were a few players in the beginning the server never gained considerable population. After several server cycles without any login attempts whatsoever, we decided to take the RO server offline permanently, and are considering other games to try.
World of Warcraft private server
Shortly after the RO server was launched we also deployed a World of Warcraft private server in beta status. After about a month of testing we realized that our server platform needed to be drastically changed and a server wipe was necessary. We relaunched WK WoW with improved functionality and less bugs, and the current server is now a permanent addition to our community.
